CBLDF Webinars: Teaching Tolerance & Understanding with Gene Luen Yang

Gene Luen Yang, the National Book Award-nominated author of American Born Chinese kicks off a new series of webinars for educators and librarians from CBLDF with “Teaching Tolerance & Understanding with Gene Luen Yang”

How can comics help students attain a broader view of the world and spark a lifelong love of reading? How can teachers and librarians respond to challenges to comics and overcome barriers to using them? Yang will draw from his career as a celebrated author, ambassador, and teacher to answer these questions and more during this webinar!

Gene Luen Yang is the National Book Award-nominated creator of American Born Chinese and Boxers & Saints. Yang has also written comics based on Nickelodeon’s popular Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon, the computer-coding mystery series Secret Coders, and several titles for DC Comics, including Superman, New Super-Man, and The Terrifics. Yang teaches creative writing for Hamline University’s MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults, founded the Reading Without Walls program, and was named National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature by the Library of Congress in 2016. Yang has been a member of CBLDF’s Board of Directors since 2018.
