Hybrid Society Meetings: Zoom Meetings or Webinars

Car and Driver Magazine’s website explains “Quite simply, a hybrid combines at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine to move the car. […] Sometimes the electric motor does all the work, sometimes it’s the gas engine, and sometimes they work together.”

Two ways to accomplish moving the vehicle.

Hybrid society meetings have two ways to accomplish education goals.

A hybrid society meeting has two ways for members to attend:
in-person
virtual
We are accustomed to IN-PERSON monthly Genealogy Society Meetings. Then Covid hit. Rather than shutting down, progressive societies have gone VIRTUAL, so attendees and presenters could gather using virtual meeting technology like Zoom.

However, though we are wearing masks and gradually becoming vaccinated, certain segments of the world’s general population are still high risk for inflection. Your society’s usual meeting place may not yet be open for groups of more than ten at a time in the meeting room.

Zoom technology permits remote society members to meet virtually using a variety of devices – be it a cell, a tablet or as we recommend – a computer. Cousin Russ and I hope that you will consider our work producing week-long virtual institutes and nine years of producing webinars and accept our advice as to the clearest way forward for your society.

OUR PLAN
Moving forward, we aim to support society leadership’s embracing technology to produce hybrid meetings, special interest groups, courses and classes. The embedded video is the introduction to a series of short training videos to guide transition to successful hybrid meetings.

Your presenter may appear in-person at the society’s meeting room or virtually, saving reimbursement for travel expenses. Either way, we have easy-to-follow guidelines to make it work.
